Where can you charge in public in Ogden?
Three sourced options: Ogden City's free Level 2 stations at the Municipal Building, eight 350 kW DC fast chargers at Historic Union Station owned by Rocky Mountain Power and operated by Electrify America, and Weber State's campus stations for permit holders. For any other station, check a station map for its current location, price and status.

What is it like charging at the Municipal Building?
Simple and free. Ogden City opened its first four public Level 2 stations in the Municipal Building parking lot in May 2024, funded in part by Rocky Mountain Power. They use J1772 plugs and can be used free for two hours at a time. Cars with a NACS (Tesla-style) port need a J1772 adapter.
The city lists the stations as charging "at 10 kWh," which presumably means about 10 kW. Your car's onboard charger may limit it to less. The Department of Energy's AFDC rule of thumb is about 25 miles of range per hour of Level 2 charging, so a two-hour session adds something like 50 miles, depending on the car. That suits a downtown errand or a meeting, not a full refill.
How much does the Union Station fast charger cost?
Under Rocky Mountain Power's Schedule 60, DC fast charging costs $0.27 per kWh for Rocky Mountain Power customers and $0.45 for everyone else, plus a $1.00 session fee. A $0.05 per kWh credit applies outside 6 to 10 p.m. on weekdays. After ten minutes at full charge, an idle fee of $0.40 per minute starts.
The eight chargers opened in April 2025. Ogden City notes that it does not set the prices and receives no revenue from them. To get the customer rate, Rocky Mountain Power says to download the Electrify America app and enroll with the code DISCOUNT and your 12-digit account number. Members of the same household, residents of properties with a Utah Rocky Mountain Power account and employees of the utility's Utah business customers are eligible too. The discount applies only at Rocky Mountain Power's own stations, not at every Electrify America site. For trips, the utility's Utah station list also includes sites in Orem, West Jordan, West Valley City, Vernal and Salina, where the same Schedule 60 prices apply.
One wrinkle: the program page's FAQ lists different off-peak hours than the tariff. Schedule 60 itself, effective January 1, 2026, defines on-peak as 6 to 10 p.m. on weekdays and everything else as off-peak. Check the current price in the app before you plug in.
A 350 kW rating is the station's maximum. The car decides the actual rate, and it usually tapers as the battery fills, so move on once you have enough charge for the next leg; the idle fee only covers time after the car is full.
Can you charge at Weber State?
If you have a valid Weber State parking permit, yes. The university lists stations in lots A2, A3, A5, A6, A7, A13, A14, W4, W6, W7 and W10, plus the Dee Events Center and the Community Education Center. Permit holders can park and charge free for up to three hours. Lot W12 is on the Davis campus, outside Ogden.
That makes campus charging useful for students and staff during the day. Visitors without a permit should check the university's parking rules before using a station. Lot locations are on the Weber State parking map.
What about South Ogden, North Ogden and Eden?
We found no city-published public charging in South Ogden, North Ogden or Ogden Valley City. That does not mean there are none, only that the cities do not list them. The Department of Energy's AFDC station locator and Rocky Mountain Power's station list are the places to check. For home charging in the valley, see EV charger installation in Eden.
How does public charging fit with a home charger?
As the backup, not the routine. A home charger refills the car overnight while you sleep, at Rocky Mountain Power's residential rates. Public stations cover road trips, a top-up downtown, or days the car was not plugged in. Drivers without home parking lean on them more, and plan around time limits and fees.
The price gap is wide. On the Schedule 1 time-of-use option, off-peak home energy is 6.6111¢ per kWh from October to May and 7.4705¢ in summer, while the Union Station customer rate is $0.27 per kWh before session fees. The full cost and convenience comparison, with worked examples, is on home charging vs public charging. Rate details are on Rocky Mountain Power EV programs.
- Check the station's status in its app or a station map before you drive to it.
- Watch the time limit: two hours at the Municipal Building, three at Weber State.
- Leave a fast charger once you have enough; idle fees start ten minutes after full.
- Keep a J1772 adapter in the car if it has a NACS port.
Public charging in Ogden questions
Is there free EV charging in Ogden?
Yes, with limits. Ogden City's four Level 2 stations in the Municipal Building lot at 2549 Washington Blvd are free for up to two hours at a time. Weber State lets cars with a valid campus parking permit charge free for up to three hours in listed lots. Both rules come from the owners' own pages and can change.
How fast are the Union Station chargers?
They are 350 kW DC fast chargers, eight of them, opened in April 2025. Your car sets the real speed: it charges at the lower of the station's output and the car's own maximum DC rate, and the rate usually slows as the battery fills. Check your car's maximum DC charging rate in its specifications.
Do Rocky Mountain Power customers pay less at Union Station?
Yes. Under Schedule 60, Rocky Mountain Power customers pay $0.27 per kWh at the utility's DC fast chargers, against $0.45 for everyone else, plus a $1.00 session fee. To get the customer price, enroll in the Electrify America app with the code DISCOUNT and your 12-digit Rocky Mountain Power account number.
Can I rely on public charging instead of a home charger in Ogden?
Some drivers do, especially those who live or work near Union Station or Weber State. It takes more planning: time limits, idle fees and trips to the charger. For daily driving, home charging overnight is usually cheaper and more convenient, with public stations kept for trips and top-ups.
