Rivian Home Charging in Ogden

What an R1T, R1S or R2 needs at home, and why your Rivian's model year matters more than its trim.

Which Rivians does this cover?

The R1T pickup and R1S SUV, sold since the 2022 model year and now offered as 2027 models, and the smaller R2 SUV. Rivian announced the first public R2 deliveries on June 9, 2026, starting with the Performance trim. For the R1, Rivian says the onboard charger provides 11.5 kW, so a 48 amp charger on a 60 amp circuit is the full-speed home setup.

R1T and R1S. Both share the same charging hardware, so the home setup is the same; what changes is the plug, by model year. Our R1T home charging guide covers the port table and garages shared with a Tesla. The R1S home charging guide covers buying new versus used and two-Rivian households.

R2. Every R2 has a NACS port. Rivian quotes up to 38 miles of range per hour for the R2 on its 48 amp NACS Wall Charger, against 25 for an R1. Check the R2's onboard charger rating in Rivian's owner's guide before sizing a circuit above 60 amps.

Why does the model year decide the plug?

Rivian switched ports for model year 2026. In Rivian's words, 2022 to 2025 vehicles "have a CCS charge port," which takes a J1772 plug for Level 2, and starting with 2026 they "use a NACS charge port." Rivian labels its second-generation R1 as 2025 and later, so a Gen 2 badge alone does not tell you which port you have.

Rivian adapterForUse at home?
J1772 AC Adapter2026 and later Rivians on J1772 chargersYes, Level 2 AC only
NACS DC Adapter2022 to 2025 R1 at Tesla SuperchargersNo, DC fast charging only
Combo CCS1 DC Adapter2026 and later Rivians at CCS1 fast chargersNo, DC fast charging only

The practical result: a J1772 charger serves every Rivian, old or new, while a NACS charger serves only 2026 and later models. Rivian says R1 orders include the J1772 AC adapter. Public fast charging, including the Rivian Adventure Network, matters on road trips but does not change the home setup.

What home charging equipment does Rivian sell?

Two chargers, each in a J1772 and a NACS version. The Wall Charger is a 48 amp (11.5 kW) hardwired unit, $800 on Rivian's Gear Shop as of October 4, 2026. The Portable Charger is 32 amps (7.6 kW) with NEMA 14-50 and NEMA 5-15 adapters, $400. Rivian's Wall Charger warranty is 4 years and requires a licensed electrician.

Installation specs, breaker settings and mounting rules are in our Rivian Wall Charger guide. You do not have to use Rivian hardware: any 48 amp charger with the right plug gives the same speed, as our home EV charger guides show. For a plug-in setup, see NEMA 14-50 installation; for the full job, home EV charger installation.

Ended Rivian's incentives page still lists a federal 30 percent charger tax credit and a Rocky Mountain Power residential charger rebate. Both have ended for new Ogden installs: the IRS says the 30C credit can't be claimed for property placed in service after June 30, 2026, and Rocky Mountain Power removed the residential charger rebate from Schedule 120 effective January 1, 2026.

Rivian home charging questions

Do I need a Rivian-brand charger?

No. Any Level 2 charger with the right plug works: J1772 for a 2022 to 2025 R1T or R1S, NACS for a 2026 or later Rivian, which can also use J1772 chargers through Rivian's J1772 AC Adapter. Rivian's Wall Charger is a 48 amp unit, matching the R1's 11.5 kW onboard charger.

Can I use Rivian's NACS DC Adapter on a Tesla home charger?

No. Rivian says to use the NACS DC Adapter with DC fast chargers only and not to attempt it on an AC charger. Home chargers are AC. For a 2022 to 2025 R1 sharing a garage with a Tesla, use a J1772 charger or Tesla's Universal Wall Connector.

Is the R2 on sale yet?

Yes. Rivian announced the first public R2 deliveries on June 9, 2026, starting with the R2 Performance with Launch Package. Premium trims follow in late 2026 and Standard trims through 2027. Every R2 has a NACS charge port.

Does Rivian install the Wall Charger?

Rivian does not install it itself. It points owners to two partners, Treehouse and Qmerit, to find a licensed electrician, and its warranty requires installation by a licensed electrician in line with local codes. Any qualified electrician can do the work.
