Chevrolet Equinox EV Home Charging in Ogden

One onboard charger rating covers almost every Equinox EV. The model year decides the plug.

How fast can an Equinox EV charge at home?

Up to 11.5 kW on Level 2 for nearly every Equinox EV. Chevrolet's build tool lists an "11.5 kW capable onboard charging module" as standard on each 2025, 2026 and 2027 trim we checked. That is 48 amps at 240 volts, so a 48 amp charger is the fastest useful setup for these cars.

From chevrolet.com's compare tool for each model year, checked October 4, 2026. Trims not shown were not checked. For a 2024 model or another AWD trim, check the window sticker or owner's manual.

The 2026 RS AWD is the outlier. If your window sticker lists the 19.2 kW module, the car can accept up to 80 amps, and the setup changes to an 80 amp charger on a 100 amp circuit. Our Silverado EV guide covers that higher-power install.

Chevrolet lists an 85 kWh pack on the 2026 Equinox EV. GM publishes no Level 2 hours-to-full figure on the pages we read.

For most Equinox EV owners, a hardwired 48 amp charger on a 60 amp circuit. It matches the 11.5 kW onboard charger exactly. The standard Dual Level Charge Cord on a 240 volt receptacle is the low-cost alternative at up to 7.7 kW. Skip anything rated above 48 amps unless the car has the 19.2 kW module.

EV charging is a continuous load, so the breaker must be at least 125 percent of the charger's output: 48 amps needs 60, 40 needs 50. GM's own PowerUp 2: J1772 follows the same rule; its manual calls for a maximum 60 amp breaker and says the unit is not for use with plugs and sockets, so it is hardwired. Our breaker sizing guide walks through the math, and Level 2 charger installation covers placement and wiring.

For the cord, GM rates its Dual Level charger at up to 32 amps. Confirm which 240 volt plug your cord uses before adding a receptacle. Under NEC 625.54, a receptacle installed for EV charging needs GFCI protection, and Utah did not amend that rule.

Does my Equinox EV have a J1772 or NACS port?

A 2026 or earlier Equinox EV has a CCS1 port, which takes a J1772 plug for home charging. GM's August 2026 NACS release lists the 2026 Equinox EV among models that ship with CCS. Chevrolet's 2027 Equinox EV page calls NACS "the new standard" charging port, so a 2027 car plugs straight into a NACS charger.

GM Energy's adapter page lists what each car needs:

  • 2025 or 2026, J1772 charger: no adapter.
  • 2025 or 2026, NACS charger: GM NACS Level 2 Adapter, which GM says "Connects to NACS home chargers only."
  • 2027, NACS charger: no adapter, for example GM's PowerUp 2: NACS.
  • 2027, J1772 charger: GM J1772 AC Adapter.

The adapter people already own is often the wrong one. GM's NACS DC Adapter is for Superchargers and NACS DC fast chargers; GM says it does not work with Destination Charging, which is Level 2.

What if we have two EVs in the garage?

Pick the home charger's plug to match the car that charges most, and use GM's Level 2 adapter for the other. If both cars need full speed on separate chargers, two 48 amp circuits add a lot of load. Chargers with power sharing or a load management device can split one supply between them instead.

A 2027 Equinox EV shares its NACS port type with a Tesla, but confirm with GM before relying on a Tesla-brand wall charger. A NACS charger GM lists as compatible, such as the PowerUp 2: NACS, is the safe pick. For splitting capacity, see EV charger load management; NEC 220.70 lets an energy management system limit the charger load counted in the panel calculation. We check load management before recommending a panel upgrade.

Can an Equinox EV back up my house?

Yes, with GM's equipment. GM Energy lists the 2024 through 2026 Equinox EV as vehicle-to-home capable, and the 2027 build tool lists V2H as standard. It requires the GM Energy PowerShift charger plus the V2H Enablement Kit, which adds a Home Hub, an inverter and a Dark Start Battery. GM rates the system at up to 9.6 kW of backup power.

GM says some 2024 vehicles need a dealer or over-the-air update to enable it, and the home must be "properly equipped" with proper grid interconnection. Confirm utility approval with Rocky Mountain Power before you buy the kit. The PowerShift is also a fast charger on its own, but on an 11.5 kW Equinox EV it will not charge faster than a 48 amp unit. The Chevrolet hub lists GM's current charger prices and offers.

Equinox EV home charging questions

What size charger does an Equinox EV need?

A 48 amp Level 2 charger on a 60 amp circuit. Chevrolet's build tool lists an 11.5 kW onboard charging module as standard on every 2025, 2026 and 2027 Equinox EV trim we checked, and 11.5 kW is what a 48 amp charger delivers at 240 volts. A bigger charger will not charge most Equinox EVs any faster.

Does any Equinox EV have the 19.2 kW onboard charger?

Chevrolet's 2026 build tool lists a 19.2 kW module as available on the RS AWD and not available on the LT 1 FWD. The 2027 build tool shows no 19.2 kW option. Check your window sticker for the 19.2 kW module before paying for an 80 amp circuit.

Will my 2025 Equinox EV work with a NACS home charger?

Yes, with GM's NACS Level 2 Adapter, which GM says connects CCS1-port GM EVs to NACS home chargers. Do not use the GM NACS DC Adapter at home; GM says it is for Superchargers and NACS DC fast chargers only. A J1772 charger needs no adapter on a 2025 or 2026 Equinox EV.

Can the Equinox EV power my house in an outage?

GM lists the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Equinox EV as vehicle-to-home capable, and the 2027 build tool lists V2H as standard. It needs GM Energy's PowerShift charger plus the V2H Enablement Kit, a properly equipped home and proper grid interconnection. Some 2024 vehicles need a dealer or over-the-air update first.

Is the included charge cord enough?

For many commuters, yes. Chevrolet lists a Dual Level Charge Cord as standard, and GM rates its Dual Level charger at up to 7.7 kW and 32 amps on Level 2. That is about two thirds of the car's 11.5 kW limit. It needs a 240 volt receptacle that matches the cord's plug.
