How fast can a Mach-E charge at home?
Ford's 2024 and 2025 order guides give one answer for every trim: "AC Charging: Up to 11kW with 48 Amps capability." That is the ceiling on Level 2. Ford's charger comparison table, based on 2025 Mach-E data, shows about 30 miles of range per charging hour on both its 48 amp and its 80 amp chargers, because the car is the limit.
| Model year | Onboard charger | Usable battery |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | 48 A (up to 11 kW) | 72 kWh SR, 91 kWh ER |
| 2025 | 48 A (up to 11 kW) | 73 kWh SR, 88 kWh ER, 91 kWh GT |
| 2021 to 2023, 2026 | Check with Ford | not covered |
From Ford's 2024 and 2025 Mustang Mach-E order guides, which list the AC charging line under Select standard equipment that Premium and GT build on. Ford labels these battery figures usable capacity. ford.com currently shows a 2026 Mach-E.
Ford does not publish hour-based Level 2 charge times for the Mach-E in the documents we read. It publishes miles per hour instead: roughly 30 on a 48 amp charger, 20 on the Mobile Power Cord at 240 volts and 3 on a 120 volt outlet.
Which charger and circuit should I install?
A 48 amp hardwired J1772 charger on a 60 amp circuit is the full-speed answer for a 2024 or 2025 Mach-E. A NEMA 14-50 outlet with Ford's Mobile Power Cord adds about 20 miles per hour, which covers most commutes overnight. Skip 80 amp equipment: Ford's own table shows no gain for the Mach-E.
| Setup | Breaker | Ford's miles per hour |
|---|---|---|
| 48 A hardwired charger (e.g. Ford Connected Charge Station) | 60 A | about 30 |
| Mobile Power Cord on a NEMA 14-50 | 50 A GFCI | about 20 |
| Mobile Power Cord on a 120 V outlet | existing 15 or 20 A | about 3 |

The 48 amp charger needs a 60 amp circuit because EV charging is a continuous load and the breaker must be at least 125 percent of the charger's output. That same rule caps any plug-in charger on a 50 amp NEMA 14-50 at 40 amps. Details in what size breaker an EV charger needs and hardwired vs NEMA 14-50. Installation steps are on Level 2 EV charger installation.
What about the Ford Mobile Power Cord?
It is an extra-cost option on recent Mach-Es, not standard. Ford's 2024 order guide rates it "up to 15 Amps" on a NEMA 5-15 and "up to 32 Amps" on a NEMA 14-50. Ford's support page and comparison table quote 30 or "30/32" amps on 240 volts. Either way, it charges well below the car's 48 amp limit.
Ford's 2025 order guide notes a change: the "Fast Charging Adapter (NACS) is now optional instead of included with Mobile Power Cord." If you bought a 2025 Mach-E with the cord, check whether the adapter came with it.
A receptacle installed for EV charging needs GFCI protection under NEC 625.54. Utah did not amend that section, even though it removed 240 volt receptacles from the general garage GFCI rule.
Can a Mach-E use a Tesla charger at home?
Only a Tesla charger with a J1772 connector. The Mach-E has what Ford calls an "SAE J1772 CCS (Combo Connector System) Charge Port." Ford's NACS adapter, which opened Tesla Superchargers to Mach-E retail owners in February 2024, is for DC fast charging only, and Ford's product page calls it "Not compatible with Level 1 or Level 2 AC chargers," including home chargers with NACS connectors.
Ford's adapter FAQ adds a warning: "Do not attempt to use NACS AC adapters with NACS DC Fast Chargers." For a garage shared with a Tesla, Tesla's Universal Wall Connector has a docked J1772 adapter and delivers up to 48 amps on a 60 amp breaker, matching the Mach-E's limit. See the Tesla Wall Connector guide and our other home charger guides.
Before buying a NACS charger for a newer Mach-E, look at the car's charge port.
What does the Ford Power Promise include?
A charger and standard installation for new F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E purchases or leases, installed by Qmerit. Ford says the charger "model and brand may vary over time based on availability." Standard means a home with its own electric meter and the charger on the same structure as the main panel. HOA approval is the owner's job.
A detached garage, a long run or a panel that needs work can push an install past "standard." Check current terms with Ford or your dealer. Our home EV charger installation page explains what drives the scope.
Two Ford home features do not apply to the Mach-E. Ford's comparison table says Home Backup Power and Home Power Management are F-150 Lightning only, and Ford's Home Backup Power page says the 80 amp Charge Station Pro is no longer sold.
Do I need a panel upgrade for a Mach-E charger?
Usually not for the Mach-E's 48 amp limit, but a load calculation decides. Under the 2023 NEC, the charger counts at its full nameplate rating. A 60 amp circuit is a real addition, and if the numbers are tight, a 40 amp setup or a load management device usually beats a service upgrade.

Mustang Mach-E home charging questions
What is the Mach-E's maximum home charging rate?
Ford's 2024 and 2025 Mach-E order guides list "AC Charging: Up to 11kW with 48 Amps capability." A 48 amp charger on a 60 amp circuit reaches that. Ford's comparison table shows the same 30 miles of range per hour on its 48 amp and 80 amp chargers for a 2025 Mach-E.
Is an 80 amp charger worth it for a Mach-E?
No. The Mach-E accepts 48 amps, so an 80 amp charger and its 100 amp circuit add cost and panel load without adding speed. Ford's own table rates both its 80 amp Charge Station Pro and 48 amp Connected Charge Station at about 30 miles per hour for the Mach-E.
Does the Mach-E come with a charging cord?
Not as standard on recent models. Ford's 2024 and 2025 order guides list the Mobile Power Cord as an option. The 2024 guide rates it up to 15 amps on a NEMA 5-15 and up to 32 amps on a NEMA 14-50. For 2025, Ford stopped bundling the NACS adapter with the cord.
Can a Mach-E use a Tesla Wall Connector?
Only the Universal Wall Connector, through its docked J1772 adapter. Ford's NACS adapter is for DC fast charging at Tesla Superchargers and Ford says it is not compatible with Level 1 or Level 2 AC chargers, including home chargers with NACS connectors.
Does the Ford Power Promise cover my install?
It covers a charger and a standard installation for new F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E purchases or leases, done by Qmerit. Ford defines standard as a residential home with its own meter and the charger on the same structure as the main panel. Detached garages and long runs may fall outside it.
