Tesla Model X Home Charging in Ogden

A Model X adds fewer miles per hour than any other Tesla on the same charger, so the circuit you choose shows up every morning.

Why does circuit size matter more on a Model X?

Because each kilowatt buys fewer miles. Tesla's Wall Connector table gives Model X about 35 miles of range per hour at the full 48 amps, against 41 for Model S and 44 for Model 3 and Model Y. Drop to a 40 amp breaker and Model X falls to about 23 miles per hour, so a smaller circuit costs it the most overnight range.

What onboard charger does a Model X have?

Tesla's onboard charger table lists Model X at 11.5 kW (48 amps), with a 60 amp circuit breaker recommended for the Wall Connector. The table has carried that figure for Model X in every capture we retrieved, from 2019 through April 2026. Tesla's tip for any car: tap the lightning bolt on the touchscreen to see its maximum amperage.

Tesla publishes separate manuals for the 2015 to 2020 Model X and the 2021 and later Model X. Tesla's shareholder updates say the Fremont Model S and Model X lines were to be replaced by Optimus production (April 22, 2026) and had been decommissioned (July 22, 2026). Model X owners from now on are working with existing cars.

Is a 2015 to 2020 Model X different?

It may be. Tesla's 2015 to 2020 Model X service manual says a Wall Connector can supply "up to twice the amperage as the Mobile Connector if the vehicle is equipped with dual chargers." That means some earlier cars accept more than a single-charger car. Read the maximum on the touchscreen; it settles the question in seconds.

Current Tesla Wall Connectors stop at 48 amps; the Gen 2 background is on our Model S page.

Which setup should a Model X owner install?

A hardwired Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector on a 60 amp circuit, if the panel allows it. That gives the full 48 amps and the most miles per night. Where the load calculation will not support 60 amps, a 50 amp breaker at 40 amps is the next best step before falling back to a NEMA 14-50.

  • 60 amp circuit, Wall Connector set for 60 amps: full speed, about 35 miles per hour.
  • 50 amp circuit, Wall Connector set for 50 amps: 40 amps, about 29 miles per hour.
  • NEMA 14-50 on a 50 amp GFCI breaker with Tesla's Mobile Connector: 32 amps, about 23 miles per hour, and a plug you can unplug and take.

The Wall Connector's maximum is set in Tesla One during commissioning to match the breaker, so the breaker and the setting must agree. See what size breaker for an EV charger for the 125 percent rule and Level 2 EV charger installation for outlet versus hardwired trade-offs. Model X sits on the Wall Connector's 24 foot cable comfortably: Tesla places its charge port on the left side, behind a door in the rear tail light assembly.

What if the garage holds a second EV?

Plan both cars into one design instead of two separate 60 amp circuits. Tesla's manuals allow up to six Wall Connectors to share a site's power over Wi-Fi, and the Universal Wall Connector can be daisy chained on one 60 amp circuit at 48 amps combined. Its J1772 adapter also covers a non-Tesla second car.

A shared setup splits power when both cars charge at once, which usually still covers two commutes overnight. NEC 220.70 lets an energy management system's setpoint stand in for the full charger load in the calculation; more on that under EV charger load management. Details of each Tesla unit are in our Tesla Wall Connector guide.

Backup power: Tesla's Powershare installation manual lists Cybertruck as the compatible vehicle for its Powershare Gateway home backup system. A Model X cannot power the house through that system.

Panel and load notes

A 2023 NEC load calculation counts the charger at 7,200 watts or its nameplate, whichever is larger, so a 48 amp unit adds about 11.5 kW. A panel upgrade is our last suggestion, not our first: load management gets checked first. The overall process is on our home EV charger installation page, and panel options are under EV charger panel upgrades.

Tesla Model X home charging questions

How fast does a Model X charge on a Tesla Wall Connector?

Tesla's Wall Connector table puts Model X at about 35 miles of range per hour at 48 amps on a 60 amp breaker, 29 at 40 amps and 23 at 32 amps. Those are Tesla's approximate figures and the lowest of the four cars in that table at each power level.

What circuit should I install for a Model X?

A 60 amp circuit with a Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector set for 60 amps. Tesla's onboard charger table lists Model X at 48 amps (11.5 kW) and recommends a 60 amp breaker. A 50 amp circuit works too, at 40 amps of charging.

Will a NEMA 14-50 outlet keep up with a Model X?

Tesla's Mobile Connector charges at 32 amps from a NEMA 14-50, which Tesla's table equates to about 23 miles of range per hour on a Model X. That replaces a typical day's driving overnight, but recovering from a long trip takes much longer than on a 48 amp Wall Connector.

Does a 2015 to 2020 Model X charge differently?

Possibly. Tesla's 2015 to 2020 Model X service manual describes vehicles equipped with dual chargers, which can take up to twice the Mobile Connector's amperage from a Wall Connector. Read your car's maximum amps on the touchscreen before an electrician sizes the circuit.

Can two Teslas share one Wall Connector circuit?

Two Wall Connectors can share power. Tesla's manuals describe power sharing for up to six units over Wi-Fi, each on its own branch circuit of up to 60 amps. Daisy chaining units on a single 60 amp circuit is currently supported only on the Universal Wall Connector, limited to 48 amps combined.
