Which Grizzl-E models are sold now?

Six, on Grizzl-E's U.S. store as of October 2026: the Classic, Classic Connect, Mini Connect and Duo Connect at 40 amps, and the Ultimate in 48 and 80 amp versions. Only the Classic has no internet connection. Every model has a 25 foot cable and a -22°F to 122°F operating range, and the Type 4 rating appears on each spec sheet that lists an enclosure.

If you are looking for the Grizzl-E Smart, it no longer appears in the U.S. lineup and its product page returns an error. Wi-Fi models are now sold under the Connect and Ultimate names. Grizzl-E offers a 3 or 5 year replacement warranty. For other brands, see our home EV charger comparison.

What makes the Grizzl-E enclosure different?

Grizzl-E lists aluminum housings on the Classic, Mini Connect and both Ultimate models, rated Type 4 for indoor and outdoor use. The operating range is -22°F to 122°F. That suits a driveway post or exterior wall in Ogden, and the cold end matters most up in Eden, where NOAA's Pineview Dam normals average about 16 nights a year at or below 0°F.

A rated enclosure does not decide placement on its own. On an exterior wall, mount the unit where roof snow will not slide onto it and plows will not pile against it, and holster the handle off the ground. The 25 foot cable lets it sit on a protected wall and still reach the car. More on that in outdoor EV charger installation.

How are Grizzl-E amps set?

On the Classic, with DIP switches on the circuit board. On Connect and Ultimate models, the Grizzl-E Connect app can also change it. Grizzl-E's FAQ pairs 16 amps with a 20 amp breaker, 24 with 30, 32 with 40 and 40 with 50. A 48 amp Ultimate needs a 60 amp circuit.

The setting has to match the circuit, not the charger's maximum. A Classic plugged into a 14-50 on a 40 amp breaker must be set to 32 amps, and on the Classic that means opening the unit to move a switch. The Mini Connect goes lower than the rest, adjustable from 7 to 40 amps. Breaker sizing is covered in what size breaker for an EV charger.

No Wi-Fi also means no app scheduling on the Classic. That is fine if your car can hold a start time on its own, which most can. On Rocky Mountain Power's optional time-of-use plan, weekday on-peak hours run 6 to 10 p.m., so set the car to start after 10. The Wi-Fi models add the Grizzl-E Connect app for control from your phone.

What about GFCI on a plug-in Grizzl-E?

Four of the six models plug into a NEMA 14-50, and the Classic also comes with a NEMA 6-50 plug. Under the 2023 NEC as adopted in Utah, a receptacle installed for EV charging needs GFCI protection, so a plug-in Grizzl-E in Ogden goes on a GFCI-protected outlet. We found no Grizzl-E guidance on GFCI breakers.

Some other charger makers warn that a GFCI breaker can nuisance-trip with their built-in protection and recommend hardwiring instead. If a plug-in Grizzl-E trips, removing the GFCI is not a legal fix; see EV charger keeps tripping the breaker. Hardwiring is an option on the Classic Connect and Duo Connect, and the two connection types are compared on hardwired vs NEMA 14-50.

What does the Ultimate 80A need?

A 100 amp circuit for the full 80 amps, because EV charging equipment needs a breaker of at least 125 percent of its output. Grizzl-E's page does not state the breaker, so that figure is the code arithmetic. The unit steps down through 64, 56, 48 and lower settings, so it can also run on a smaller circuit.

Few cars benefit. For retail buyers, Ford lists an 80 amp onboard charger only on 2022 and 2023 F-150 Lightning Extended Range trucks, and most EVs top out at 48 amps or less. Check yours in our vehicle charging guides before paying for a 100 amp run. Ask your installer and inspector whether a separate disconnect is required for chargers over 60 amps (NEC Article 625.43). An 80 amp circuit also weighs heavily in a load calculation; see panel upgrades for EV charging and EV charger load management.

One charger for two cars

The Duo Connect is the Grizzl-E answer for a two-EV household on one 40 amp circuit. It has two cables, in any mix of J1772 and NACS, and splits the power to 20 amps each when both cars are plugged in. That is slower per car than two separate chargers, but it avoids a second circuit. Grizzl-E questions

Is there still a Grizzl-E Smart?

Not under that name. Grizzl-E's U.S. store lists six chargers: Classic, Classic Connect, Mini Connect, Duo Connect, Ultimate 48A and Ultimate 80A. The Wi-Fi models carry the Connect or Ultimate name, and the old Smart product page address no longer loads.

Can a Grizzl-E be hardwired?

The Ultimate 48A and 80A are hardwired only. Grizzl-E's FAQ says the Classic Connect and Duo Connect can also be hardwired. The Classic and Mini Connect are listed as plug-in units, and the Classic comes with a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 plug.

How do you change the amps on a Grizzl-E?

With DIP switches on the circuit board, or in the Grizzl-E Connect app on Wi-Fi models. Grizzl-E pairs 16 amps with a 20 amp breaker, 24 with 30, 32 with 40 and 40 with 50. The setting must not exceed 80 percent of the circuit's breaker.

Is a Grizzl-E good for outdoor use in Utah winters?

Grizzl-E lists a Type 4 indoor and outdoor rating and a -22°F to 122°F operating range on its current models, with aluminum housings on the Classic, Mini Connect and Ultimate. In Eden and Ogden Valley, mount it clear of roof snow-shed and plow piles.
