Kia EV6 Home Charging in Ogden

The 2025 EV6 changed its charge port and its batteries. The onboard charger did not, which makes the home setup simpler than it looks.

What changed on the 2025 EV6?

Two things that matter at home. Kia says the 2025 EV6 "adopts the North American Charging Standard (NACS)," with the port moved to the left rear fender on every trim except the GT. Batteries also grew, from 58.0 and 77.4 kWh to 63.0 and 84.0 kWh. The 10.9 kW onboard charger stayed the same, so the right circuit did not change.

The port also moved, so check that the charger cable reaches the left rear corner of the car.

What onboard charger does my EV6 have?

Every EV6 Kia lists, 2022 through 2026 and every trim, has a 10.9 kW onboard charger. At 240 volts that is about 45 amps. Kia does not offer a larger AC charger option on the EV6, so a home circuit sized for more than a 48 amp charger adds cost without adding speed.

From Kia's 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026 EV6 specification pages and the 2025 pricing release. The smaller battery is the Light (Standard Range) trim; Long Range, Wind, GT-Line and GT use the larger one. Amps are our arithmetic from Kia's kW figure.

A 48 amp hardwired charger on a 60 amp circuit fully uses the EV6's 10.9 kW onboard charger and matches the "240V / 48A" equipment Kia uses for its published charge times. A 40 amp plug-in charger on a NEMA 14-50 outlet gives 9.6 kW, about 12 percent less, which still refills an EV6 overnight.

The 60 amp breaker follows the 125 percent rule in what size breaker an EV charger needs. In Utah, an outlet installed for EV charging needs GFCI protection. For the hardwired versus outlet trade-off, see hardwired vs NEMA 14-50, and for circuit work in general, Level 2 EV charger installation.

Kia's 2026 features list shows a portable cord standard, but the 2026 manual says it "is sold separately," and Kia lists only 120 volt times for it, so do not plan on it for 240 volt charging until you confirm what came with your car.

Which plug should the home charger have?

For a 2022 to 2024 EV6, a J1772 charger. For a 2025 or 2026 EV6 with the NACS port, either a NACS-handle charger that plugs in directly, or a J1772 charger used with Kia's AC adapter. Kia's manual rates that AC adapter at 250 volts and 80 amps, well above what an EV6 draws.

The free adapter Kia offered some 2024 EV6 buyers is for DC fast charging, so it does not help an older EV6 at home. The full adapter lineup is on our Kia home charging page. Kia's manual says approved adapters are sold by Kia dealers, so check whether one came with your car.

If the garage also has a Tesla, Tesla's Universal Wall Connector has a J1772 adapter docked on the unit, so one charger covers a Tesla and an EV6 of any year. Details are in the Tesla Wall Connector guide.

How long does an EV6 take to charge at home?

Kia's 2026 owner's manual gives about 5 hours 40 minutes for the 63.0 kWh battery and 7 hours 20 minutes for the 84.0 kWh battery, charging from 10 to 100 percent at room temperature on a 48 amp, 11 kW charger. Earlier cars with smaller batteries are listed at 5 hours 50 minutes and 7 hours 10 minutes.

Kia notes that battery condition, charger and temperature change these times. Cold Ogden mornings run longer.

Can an EV6 power tools or a campsite?

Yes, on most trims. Kia's 2025 features list shows the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external port standard on Wind, GT-Line and GT, with an under-seat outlet standard on the GT. The 2026 list makes the external port standard on Wind and up and optional on Light trims. V2L is not a whole-house backup system.

What if the panel is tight or there is a second EV?

Under the 2023 NEC, a charger counts at its full nameplate rating in the load calculation, so a 48 amp charger adds about 11.5 kW. If that pushes the house over, a lower setting or load management can avoid a service upgrade. Two EVs can share one circuit with chargers that support power sharing.

Kia EV6 home charging questions

Does a 2025 or 2026 EV6 need a NACS home charger?

No. It can plug straight into a NACS-handle charger, or use a J1772 charger through Kia's AC adapter, rated 250 volts and 80 amps. Kia dealers sell approved adapters, so check whether one came with your car.

Can a 2022 to 2024 EV6 use a Tesla Wall Connector?

Not the NACS-only Gen 3 unit. These EV6s have a CCS1 port, and Kia's adapter for older Kias is for DC fast charging only. Tesla's Universal Wall Connector, with its docked J1772 adapter, or any J1772 charger works.

Is a 48 amp charger more than an EV6 needs?

Only slightly. The 10.9 kW onboard charger draws about 45 amps at 240 volts, so a 48 amp charger on a 60 amp circuit covers it fully. A 40 amp charger on a NEMA 14-50 delivers 9.6 kW, roughly 12 percent less.

Does Kia include a home charger with a new EV6?

We found no current Kia home charger offer. Kia's owner charging page, checked October 4, 2026, covers public charging only, and its Electrify America credit enrollment ended December 31, 2025.

Does the EV6 GT have the new NACS port?

Kia says the 2025 port move excludes the GT, so look at the inlet before choosing a charger connector.
