Do some EV9 trims charge faster at home?

No. Kia lists a 10.9 kW onboard charger on every EV9 trim for 2024, 2025 and 2026: Light, Light Long Range, Wind, Land and GT-Line. There is no 19 kW option in Kia's U.S. specifications. What does differ is the battery: 76.1 kWh on the Light and 99.8 kWh on every other trim.

From Kia's 2024, 2025 and 2026 EV9 specification pages and 2026 features list. Kia's April 2025 release names the 2026 EV9 as coming standard with a NACS port.

10.9 kW at 240 volts is about 45 amps, so a 48 amp charger on a 60 amp breaker uses it fully.

How long does a 99.8 kWh EV9 take to charge at home?

Kia's 2026 owner's manual gives about 8 hours 45 minutes from 10 to 100 percent at room temperature on a 48 amp, 11 kW charger for the 99.8 kWh battery, and 6 hours 45 minutes for the 76.1 kWh Light. On the 2026 EV9's 30 amp portable cord, Kia lists 14 hours 35 minutes and 11 hours 15 minutes.

Dual-level cord, 240 V / 30 A (2026)11 h 15 min14 h 35 min
Cord on 120 V / 12 A64 h 25 min84 h 20 min

The 48 amp times match on Kia's 2024 to 2026 spec pages. Cold mornings in Ogden Valley run longer.

The gap between a 48 amp charger and the 30 amp cord is close to six hours on a full charge. Most nights replace one day's driving, so it matters most after road trips.

Can I just use the portable cord Kia supplies?

On a 2026 EV9, often yes. Kia lists a dual-level in-cable control box as standard on every 2026 trim, rated "240V 30A MAX / 120V 12A MAX with different input cord set." At 240 volts it needs a dedicated, properly grounded receptacle on its own circuit. Kia's manual forbids extension cords, splitters, adapters and surge protectors.

A 30 amp continuous load needs at least a 40 amp circuit. Check which 240 volt plug Kia's cord set uses before an outlet goes in. In Utah, a receptacle installed for EV charging needs GFCI protection. On a 2024 or 2025 EV9, check the cord's label for its 240 volt rating. For the outlet versus hardwired decision, see hardwired vs NEMA 14-50 and what size breaker an EV charger needs.

If you drive the EV9 hard or tow with it, a 48 amp hardwired charger on a 60 amp circuit gets every kilowatt the car accepts. If daily miles are moderate and the panel is tight, a 240 volt outlet for Kia's 30 amp cord, or a 40 amp plug-in charger on a NEMA 14-50, is a reasonable step down.

Which plug does my EV9 need at home?

A 2024 or 2025 EV9 has a CCS1 port, so it uses a J1772 charger at home. A 2026 EV9 has a NACS port and comes with Kia's "AC Adapter" as standard, which lets it use a J1772 charger. It can also plug directly into a charger with a NACS handle. Kia's manual rates the AC adapter at 250 volts and 80 amps.

The free NACS adapter Kia gave 2024 and 2025 EV9 buyers from September 4, 2024 is for DC fast charging, so it does not help an older EV9 at home. On a 2026 EV9, Kia lists the DC adapter as optional outside ZEV states.

For a Tesla in the same garage, Tesla's Universal Wall Connector has a J1772 adapter docked on the unit and serves an EV9 of any year. See the Tesla Wall Connector guide.

Can an EV9 power appliances or the house?

Appliances, on some trims. Kia's 2025 features list shows the V2L exterior outlet standard on the Land and GT-Line only. Whole-house backup is a different matter: Kia's 2024 launch release named an available Wallbox Quasar 2 bidirectional charger for vehicle-to-home, but said it was not yet available and needed separately sold equipment.

Ask Kia or your dealer what V2H equipment is currently offered for the EV9. Any setup that feeds a house needs transfer equipment and approval from the utility before it is connected.

Will an EV9 charger need a panel upgrade?

Not necessarily. Under the 2023 NEC a 48 amp charger counts as about 11.5 kW in the load calculation, at its full nameplate rating. If the numbers do not work, the 30 amp cord, a lower charger setting or load management can fit the EV9 into the existing service, at the cost of slower charging on the big battery.

Read about EV charger load management and panel upgrades for EV charging. A panel upgrade is our last suggestion, not our first: load management gets checked first. Two Kias in one garage? The Kia EV6 home charging guide covers the smaller car.

Kia EV9 home charging questions

Do some EV9 trims have a 19 kW onboard charger?

No. Kia's 2024 to 2026 EV9 spec pages list 10.9 kW on every trim. That is about 45 amps at 240 volts, so a 48 amp charger on a 60 amp circuit is the fastest home setup for any EV9.

Is the portable cord that comes with a 2026 EV9 enough?

For many households, yes. Kia rates it at 240 volts and 30 amps and lists 14 hours 35 minutes for the 99.8 kWh battery, against 8 hours 45 minutes on a 48 amp charger. Daily driving refills overnight either way.

Can a 2024 or 2025 EV9 use a Tesla Wall Connector?

Use Tesla's Universal Wall Connector, with its docked J1772 adapter, or any J1772 charger. These EV9s have a CCS1 port, and Kia's free NACS adapter is for DC fast charging only.

Can an EV9 power my house in an outage?

Not with what comes in the box. Kia's 2024 launch release named a Wallbox Quasar 2 bidirectional charger for vehicle-to-home use but said it was not yet available. Ask Kia about current availability.

Does Kia include a home charger with a new EV9?

We found no current offer. Kia's owner charging page, checked October 4, 2026, lists public charging only. The 2024 EV9 came with a 1,000 kWh Electrify America credit; that program's enrollment ended December 31, 2025.
